INSPIRATION & PROCESS
Learn to identify and capture your inspirations and get started on your own creative path.
Process refers to how you get from inspiration to a finished piece.
Process helps you work through design issues, find the best construction solutions,
and generate ideas for the future.

THE ELEMENTS - LINE, SHAPE, PATTERN, TEXTURE
The Elements of Design are the building blocks of your composition.
Understanding how the these elements function is crucial to becoming a more
effective artist.
Experiment with them to create a variety of emotions, energy, and point of view.

PERSONAL COLOR DESIGN
In this class you will gain the knowledge to confidently and effectively combine colors.
Confident color adds personality and character to your work.
This is not a color theory class. We will explore color relationships, dynamics, and harmonies in order to create palettes with a strong point of view.
Whether you work in a colorful medium or are simply choosing stones—you need this class.

THE PRINCIPLES - UNITY, MOVEMENT, AND BALANCE
The Principles of Design are the over-arching concepts which organize our ideas in
the design space. These three principles are essential for good design.
Unity creates a sense of wholeness and completeness.
Movement creates a visual path that leads the viewer around the composition.
Balance creates visual equanimity and builds dynamic tension.

PRINCIPLES - RHYTHM, CONTRAST, AND FOCUS
These principles add the personal flavor and individuality to your work.
Learn to choose what fits the situation best: a strong focal emphasis, the drama of
contrast, or the musical quality of rhythm?

PUTTING IT TOGETHER
This class is the culmination or summing up of the entire “semester”.
We will review what we’ve learned and then put your new knowledge to use by creating
a unique design.

First, we will look back at all we’ve covered. Then, I will give you a construction assignment.
You will have two weeks to complete your project. In the last class, you will present your project
to the group for assessment and critique.
